Eighty players took to the ice on Jan. 5 for the second-annual Contractors and Camo 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament held this year at the O’Malley Ice Center in Anchorage.
The event mixed members of the Alaska Warriors hockey team with Associated General Contractors of Alaska members to create teams to go head-to-head on the ice. The tournament is a fundraiser for Alaska Warriors Hockey, a team comprised of U.S. military veterans, either injured or disabled, with the goal of providing support, connection and camaraderie for each other on and off the ice. It’s a program of Challenge Alaska, a 501(3) nonprofit providing sports and recreation opportunities to Alaskans with disabilities since 1980.
Alaska Warriors placed second in the B division at the 2018 USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival last April in Chicago, and the team hopes to attend the national tournament this year. The AGC tournament raised $7,000 to help the team travel to the national festival, scheduled for March 28-31 in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Congratulations to Team Schwanz, which won the tournament, and thank you to all of our sponsors for helping to make the event a success!
